In October 1995 the Zoo of Dalian set its new site in the southern part of the city. Surrounded by woods and nestled in the Baiyun Mountain, the new zoo sets the animals’ home again -- nature.
The zoo exhibits more than 1000 animals of over 130 kinds, including Bear Hill, Lion and Tiger Hill, the Monkey Garden, the Asiatic Elephant Hall, the Herbivorous Animals Region, the Chimpanzee and Baboon Region, and the Nature Preservation Region. Also it contains a Rain Forest Hall, a Science Hall and a large free-breeding area in which the animals live as the "hosts" instead of prisoners in a cage. All of these compose a rhythm of green and life, and embody the theme of "animals are human beings' friends forever". Those animal lovers can sponsor one for feeding. It is here people are learning to take care of other species as well as themselves.
